2005 Roche Harbor Vacation
Our first trip to the San Juan Islands!  We sailed (motored really) from Seattle up to Port
Townsend, where we spent the night.  The next morning we finished the journey north, pulling
into Roche Harbor Marina.  From there we mounted a couple side trip excursions over the next
week before heading home (done in one long passage).

Highlights included:
Port Townsend (Boat Haven Marina)
Roche Harbor area
Whale Watching
Inverter and Battery project shakedown
Where were we?
We've arrived!
Our previous navigational challenge had been making the trip from Seattle to Port
Townsend, but this year we crossed the open water of the straight and headed into the San
Juan's.  While not a huge challenge, the straights are much more open to weather - and we
were happy to arrive at the Guest Dock, lucky #7.
Our Lady of Good Voyage Chapel
In the background, you can see Roche Harbor's chapel.  Originally built in 1892 as a
Methodist church, it still holds active ceremonies in several denominations.  It was
renovated in 1957, and rededicated as Our Lady of Good Voyage Chapel.  It had a carillon
installed in its tiny steeple in 1972, and you can hear it playing songs throughout the harbor.
