Tiger's Ledge
What's New?
Well, no boat project in 2007.  What fun is that I ask?!

Instead, our a
nnual project (plus five months of 2006 and 2008) was focused on the new domicile.  It has
certainly been a full scale project!  So, if you have some curiosity about w
hat could possibly have diverted us from
Kai Tora
- come along for the virtual open house.  We are hoping to have the real open house first half of 2008.

The Name
As usual, there is something to the name.

Kai Tora was named for its Japanese translation of
"Sea Tiger."  Later, we found a second translation in
the language of the Mauri Indians of New Zealand
giving it the meaning of
"Discoverer."  In naming
Tiger's ledge, we keep with the
tiger theme... but
are unlikely to find a second meaning buried in the
name.  Our quick web search revealed that, like Kai
Tora, there are few competitors for the moniker.

Inspiration for the name was drawn from a
monastery in Bhutan named
Taktshang.  The name
means "Tiger's nest
," the legend being that
Padmasambhava (Guru Rinpoche) flew there on
the back of
one of his consorts who had taken the
shape of
a tigress.  It hangs on a cliff at 3,120
metres (10,200 feet), some 700 meters (2,300 feet)
above the bottom of Paro valley.  While we don't
quite achieve that level of drama,  my tiger's have
certainly earned their place here
on our ledge.
Look, you can see there from here...
Our previous perch on the 9th floor of The Seasons building gave
us a panoramic view of Bellevue and Meydenbauer Bay.  We loved
the location, access to downtown, parks, restaurants, etc... but had
thoroughly outgrown the 1,960 sq. ft. we had.

We spotted new construction just seven blocks away on the other
side of the bay.  Great view location, perfect walking distance, and
of course it sold very quickly.  This slope leading into Meydenbauer
Bay is great, one of only a couple places in Bellevue you can buy a
full size home with such great walk-to access to downtown.

Imagine our surprise when the original buyer had health problems
and backed out.  We got a second chance to grab it.  This time we
were ready, and took the plunge!

This view is the back of the house of course, you can see the deck
off the master bedroom.  This picture was taken in October 2006,
and shows the house a little further along than when we got
started with it.
